Project Overview

Red Velvet Beds is a brand producing furniture for the BDSM/intimate lifestyle category, for which a complete brand identity was developed from scratch — built entirely around symbolism and meaning rather than explicit or vulgar visual language.

Challenge

Create a premium, tasteful identity for a category that is often reduced to shock value or explicit imagery. The challenge was to communicate the brand's subject matter honestly and confidently — without resorting to vulgarity — using symbolism, ritual, and abstraction to speak to desire, control, and intimacy on a conceptual level.

Outcome

Red Velvet Beds established a distinctive, premium identity in a category typically defined by shock value — proving that even the most sensitive subject matter can be communicated with elegance, restraint, and conceptual depth through the deliberate use of symbolism over literal representation.

Elegance with a
darker pulse

/ Concept
The brand identity was built around the idea of "Ritual of Desire" — framing intimacy not as a single act, but as a structured journey through stages of connection, control, and transformation. Each stage of the ritual was translated into an abstract symbolic object:

  • Entry / Consent — bow, wax seal

  • Temptation — heart, spiked apple

  • Identity / Mask — rabbit mask, melting mask

  • Control — gloves, lobster, balance

  • Intensity — spiked helmet

  • Intimacy — underwear

This symbolic system allowed the brand to speak about sensitive subject matter through form and metaphor rather than literal imagery — elegant, dark, and conceptually rich.
The rabbit became the brand's central icon — a symbol of vulnerability and role-play — while a separate icon system was developed based on the aesthetics of human alphabet photography, abstracting gymnasts' choreographed poses into clean, recognizable silhouette forms.

/ Directions considered
Several stylistic directions were explored before settling on the final concept. One early direction referenced old-school 2000s Playboy-style aesthetics — glossy, retro-glamour visual language — but this direction was ultimately dropped at the client's request in favor of the more abstract, symbolic approach that better matched the brand's premium positioning.

/ Logo & Brand Book
Designed the Red Velvet Beds logo — a rabbit-mask emblem — along with a complete visual identity system: color palette (strong red, black, white), typography (Times New Roman + custom serif pairing), icon system, and full logo usage guidelines.

/ Packaging & Print
Designed packaging (bags, boxes), business cards, and print materials carrying the brand's symbolic visual language across physical touchpoints.

/ Campaign Photography
Art-directed a photography campaign translating the brand's symbolism into styled visuals — products, textures, and mood — reinforcing the "ritual" concept through imagery rather than explicit content.

/ Social Media
Extended the visual identity into social media content, maintaining the same restrained, symbolic tone across the brand's online presence.
